As well as being England's prettiest village, Castle Combe is one of the most relaxing places in the UK for a staycation.

Castle Combe in the Cotswolds is already a beloved tourist destination — and now it has made it on to the list of the most relaxing staycation destinations in the UK.

Compiled by Arran Scent of Scotland, the list placed Castle Combe third, with Alresford in Hampshire taking the top spot and Lacock in Wiltshire in second place.

Already a hotspot with tourists, Castle Combe is famous for its picturesque honey-coloured cottages and riverside location — and was crowned the prettiest village in England in 2021.

Over 100 destinations were ranked by metrics including the average hours of sunshine and days of rainfall per year; nightly price for three-star accommodation; and the number of scenic walks, RHS Gardens and National Trust sites in the area, with the Cotswolds taking eight spots in the top 20.

Nearby Bibury came in at number eight; Broadway just missed out on a top 10 spot, coming in at number 11; while Moreton-in-Marsh, Chipping Campden, Bourton-on-the-Water and Burford came in at numbers 12, 13, 14 and 15 respectively, with Stow-on-the-Wold just scraping a place in the top 20 at number 19.
