Would be nice if you could have a trip on a small boat instead of having to paddle. Will give 10 stars if they introduce that!

If you’re a fan of films then quite simply every other Sunday, The Space in Stroud is the place for you.

The popular fortnightly Cinema Club held at the Stroud arts centre offers an eclectic selection of cinematic triumphs for its members’ viewing pleasure and joining couldn’t be easier. Annual membership costs just £2, which you can pay when you arrive, and admission for each film fetches £5 a time.

Shown fortnightly on a Sunday evening, the diverse range of films shown is a perfect way to explore classic, independent and world cinema on the big screen. Plus, there is plenty of time to chew the fat with like-minded film buffs after each screening.

On Sunday 22 June 2008, The Diving Bell and The Butterfly will be projected onto The Space’s silver screen. Telling the true story of Jean-Do, the high-flying editor of French Elle and father of two, who is faced with a harrowing predicament – but using enormous courage, determination and his soaring imagination to escape from his trap.

While we don’t want to give too much away, The Diving Bell and The Butterfly has captured the attention of the international film critics – with director Julian Schnabel having garnered the Director’s Award at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival, and the script having been written by none other than Academy Award winner Ronald Harwood of The Pianist. This French flick was also nominated for four Oscars and a host of other accolades.
