After the Lechlade Memorial Hall burned down in May 2016, plans on how to recreate the space for today’s users emerged, including designs for a new skate park alongside the village hall.
The Barrow skate park is already open to users but will enjoy its official launch on Sunday April 15 2018. The opening will include appearances from Vans team riders and coaching for people who are new to skating or BMX.
The skate park has been made possible thanks to fundraising from Trustees of Lechlade Memorial Hall & Recreation Charity and a £10,000 grant from Gloucestershire’s Police and Crime Commissioner.
Simon Paul, Chairman of Trustees of Lechlade Memorial Hall & Recreation Charity said: ‘Getting the design of the new skate park right was our number one priority. The design developed by Gravity Skateparks was chosen and construction took place between October and January.’
Police and Crime Commissioner Martin Surl said: ‘Arson has a much wider impact than just the structural damage to a building. What happened to the Lechlade Memorial Hall was really shocking, and the loss of a community space can be devastating to the groups and residents who use it.
‘While work on the new hall nears completion, it’s really great to see the Barrow skate park is available for people to use, and gives Lechlade’s younger residents a place to spend time outdoors with friends.’
