The south west is the best place in the UK for a road trip, according to a new study by temporary car insurance provider GoShorty.
The study ranked UK regions on their suitability for a road trip, considering everything from road safety and traffic delays to campsites and most-visited attractions, with the south west taking the top spot.
The region scored 7.44 out of a possible 10 points, boasting six of the UK’s most-visited attractions; 2,833 attractions rated five star on Tripadvisor; 905 campsites to choose from; and less traffic than eight of the other 10 regions, too.
Among these attractions is Westonbirt, The National Arboretum, which is listed as the eighth most-visited paid-for attraction in the country and the only one in Gloucestershire to make the top 20 – with other south west attractions including Longleat in Wiltshire, the Eden Project in Cornwall, the Roman Baths in Bath and Stonehenge in Somerset making the list, too.
