Anyone from Gloucestershire knows that it's an absolutely glorious place to be at Christmastime — and now, two locations in the county have made a list of the top 10 UK hidden gems for a festive staycation.
The new study from Christmas Tree World placed Gloucester at the top of the list, with Tewkesbury not far behind, judging each location by a range of factors including nightly hotel prices during December; the number of restaurants and attractions; and the level of interest on social media.
It's not hard to see why Gloucester took the top spot, with so many incredible Christmassy events from the outdoor ice rink at Gloucester Quays to Gloucester Cathedral's breathtaking Christmas Experience at Night taking place in the city — as well as an affordable £117 per night average hotel price.
Considered a hidden gem with just 13,340 annual searches for festive breaks, Gloucester is beginning to prove popular with festive visitors looking to avoid bigger city breaks — with the number of TikTok views for the cathedral city hitting 147.8 million.
Close behind at number six was Tewkesbury, with its imposing abbey, gorgeous Tudor buildings, historic pubs and an even more affordable £85 per night average for a hotel room — and a whopping 686.4 million TikTok views, too!
