A 19th century gatekeeper's lodge at Ellenbrough Park hotel has been transformed into the hotel's first self-catering space — complete with its own glorious garden.
Tucked into the edge of the five-star hotel's beautiful grounds, The Lodge has its own conservatory and outdoor terrace as well as a cosy log burner lounge and homely bedroom with an ensuite shower.
Opening its doors from Friday 22 September 2023, SoGlos took a first look inside Cheltenham's newest travel offering.
The atmosphere is intimate and homely, a world away from a hotel but with the benefits of the hotel's restaurant and bar just footsteps away if guests don't feel like cooking in the beautifully appointed kitchen.
Calming, sage green cabinets are filled with cream earthenware and cream Smeg appliances provide all the creature comforts for a home-from-home experience.
The king-size bed sits under a characterful gabled roof and nods to the past are also on show in the lounge, with a baking oven tucked into the Cotswold stone walls next to a good-sized log burner for toasty nights curled up in front of the flames. There's an added benefit of full use of the hotel's spa facilities, too.
It has a private, secluded feel, giving the sense of being away from it all. And it's a world away from its humble beginnings as a 19th century gatekeeper's lodge.
With such historic roots, the Grade II listed building has required careful modifications to respect the history of its 90-acre site.
General manager Marwan Hemchaoui said: 'The renaissance of lodges and cottages is very prominent in the UK currently, so for us, this was an opportunity to provide a new self-catering experience at Ellenborough Park for our guests with the added touch of five-star service.
'The 19th century lodge has been given a new spruce of life, snuggled in the corner of our extensive grounds, it is exclusive, it is private, and perfect for families as well as pet lovers. This addition is part of the next chapter for our hotel following a complete room refurbishment and brand-new Spa Garden Retreat, marking our last big project for 2023.'
