Following on from its successes in 2018 and 2019, The SoGlos Gloucestershire Lifestyle Awards are making a return in 2020, and as such, the search begins for this year’s Hero of The Year.

The hero category will be open to nominations from individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to Gloucestershire through their work in the charity, sport or business arena. After being whittled down to a shortlist of worthy candidates, the vote will be opened to the public, with the winner crowned at a coveted award ceremony on Thursday 28 May 2020.

In 2019, the winner of the Hero of the Year award, as voted for by SoGlos readers, was Bob Perkins, who was crowned for taking three weeks unpaid annual leave every year for the last 30 years, in order to sell poppies at Eastgate Shopping Centre.

Meanwhile, the highly commended hero was Jamie McDonald, who most recently broke the record for the longest distance covered on a treadmill in one week, raising £55,000 for charity in the process. Proving what a true hero he was, Jamie attended the SoGlos awards evening on Thursday 16 May 2019 on crutches, just 10 days into a gruelling recovery from his 524 miles.

Next year’s event takes place on Thursday 28 May 2020 in the impressive Princess Hall at Cheltenham Ladies’ College. For more information and a full list of categories visit our awards page.
