Day trippers will soon be able to travel from Cheltenham to Oxford City Centre for just £10, as bus operator Stagecoach West takes over the 853 bus service on Sunday 26 July 2020.
Stagecoach West will offer an 853 Dayrider Gold ticket for just £10, which gives passengers unlimited travel along the route from Cheltenham to Oxford on the day they buy their ticket, making it the cheapest way to travel to the city.
The 853 is the only direct bus link between Cheltenham and Oxford, which also calls at the picturesque Cotswold villages of Burford, Northleach and Witney along the way.
The bus will arrive at St Giles in Oxford, where Oxford Castle, the Museum of Natural History, the University of Oxford and Westgate Shopping Centre are all within walking distance.
Anyone travelling to Oxford regularly will also be able to get five tickets for the price of four on the Stagecoach app, which will mean significant savings compared to the price of travelling by train.
Managing Director at Stagecoach West, Rupert Cox, said: ‘We are excited to be able to offer this new route to connect Cheltenham to Witney and Oxford. The city has a lot to offer residents, from great shopping locations to historic attractions, and we are thrilled to be able to offer our customers a cost-effective and convenient way to travel there.
‘We are constantly looking for new ways to serve our community, including by expanding the services we have available, and are confident that the new route will prove invaluable to many Cheltenham and Oxford residents.’
