Gloucester’s new Primark to due to open its doors on Wednesday 8 December 2021 – just in time for Christmas shopping.
Passers-by can already see how the store on the corner of King’s Walk and Eastgate Street has completely transformed the former BHS department store, which closed in 2016.
Set over two floors the new, even bigger Primark will offer an extended range of women’s, men’s and children’s fashion, as well as homewares, and allow the business to decamp from its smaller premises just a few doors down.
For the adjacent King’s Walk shopping centre the opening will be another boost, neatly bookending the parade of stores which opens onto the forthcoming multi-million pound King’s Square redevelopment at its opposite end.
According to reports Primark’s owner, Associated British Foods, is expected open more than 100 new shops over the next five years, which would take its number of stores worldwide from 398 to 530.
In September 2021 Primark reported a 12 per cent fall in like-for-like sales from pre-pandemic levels in the year – but still increased operating profit by 15 per cent to £415m.
The doors of Primark, in Eastgate Street, Gloucester, are expected to open at 10am on Wednesday 8 December.
