Regent Arcade shopping centre will undergo a huge transformation if plans for a new boutique cinema, restaurants and rooftop bar are given the go ahead by planning teams from Cheltenham Borough Council.
Plans to turn the 55,000 square ft space inside the former BHS unit were submitted by Regent Arcade on Friday 27 July 2018.
If given permission, the development will include a five-screen cinema, four restaurants and a rooftop bar, in what’s described by Regent Arcade as an ‘exciting mixed-use development.’
It follows on from the arcade’s plans for a ‘café quarter’ space, which was given permission in 2017. This includes the opening up of Regent Arcade’s Regent Street entrance and according to planning documents submitted in 2016, would ‘create a vibrant, open and active streetscape with external terraces and entrance porticos.’
Scott Lahive is Regent Arcade’s centre manager: ‘We are excited to announce our plans for a new state of the art boutique cinema, along with new restaurants, roof top bar and additional leisure space.
‘The development will be a great addition to the shopping centre, help boost footfall for the surround area and support the evening economy. Our plans include redesigning our Ormond Place entrance at the same time and carrying our major improvement works to the public realm.
‘We are delighted to be giving something back to the town by investing in the upgrading of the paving and street furniture to improve connectivity for pedestrian on Regent Street and the Promenade.’
