Lilian Faithfull Care has opened the first Dementia Meeting Centre, encouraging local people affected by dementia to visit the centre on Wednesdays.
The first of its kind in Gloucestershire, the Dementia Meeting Centre will open on Wednesdays from 10am to 3.30pm at the Royal Gardens Community Hub in Cheltenham.
Visitors to the centre will be able to benefit from support from Lilian Faithfull Care’s dementia team to help them adapt to daily life with dementia, as well as fun activities like gardening, art and dancing in a safe environment. The centre also gives people a chance to meet new friends.
The centre’s opening is inspired by the University of Worcester and The Association for Dementia Studies (ADS) who run a project to establish new meeting centres in the UK for people affected by dementia.
Co-centre manager, Georgina Kirby said: ‘We recognise the affect being told you have dementia has on people and their loved ones, and we are here to help.’
The Dementia Meeting Centre is opening every Wednesday from 10am and 3.30pm and visitors can attend for as many weeks as they need to.
