Blushes Hair ID review

Heading to one of Cheltenham's trendiest salons armed with a head full of Pinterest ideas of lavish locks and sassy styles, I made my way to Blushes for its brand-new Hair ID service to see if it really was style or substance.

In a nutshell

Promising a hair experience backed with expert knowledge, incredible service and the feeling of being truly pampered, Blushes pulled out all the stops, transforming my half-hearted hair style into something much more manageable.

The review

The Hair ID consultation

There’s nothing quite like that disappointment when you’ve picked a hairstyle you’d like, you’ve found the perfect Pinterest pin and it just doesn’t quite look how you wanted. Having had hair down to my waist, a lob, mid-length hair and everything in between, I was intrigued to see what the wonderful team at Blushes would advise for my rather limp and lifeless locks.

Launching a complimentary Hair Identity service earlier this year, I headed to Blushes to meet with Edd, a colour degree specialist with a warmth and energy for what he does, and an attitude which is immediately infectious as soon as you meet him.

Unsure as to what a Hair ID would really achieve, the steps we went through surpassed my expectations by far. Taking into account your lifestyle, the consultation actually considers a style that suits your routine, how much time you have to spend on doing your hair, which in my case, is not very long, and what kind of colours and cuts will suit your skin.

With exciting ideas floating around throughout the consultation, the Hair ID allows you to see for yourself what your new style will be like. Sporting a rainbow colour cape, I was talked through the colours which complemented my skin tone and what would work well for my face shape, deciding on a balayage with a collar-bone cut.

Salon experience

Complete with chic interiors, luxury finishes and a soothing setting, Blushes sets itself apart from other salons with its exceptional service and the instant enthusiasm from the team, to give you your best look yet.

Leaving behind your everyday stresses, there’s something about the Blushes experience which shows you they’re more than just a salon – it really isn’t a case of style over substance.

With added extras including complimentary Prosecco and olives, freshly-made coffees and even decadent ice-creams on hot days, it’s easy to see how Blushes has earned its reputation. Staff went the extra mile with a scalp massage whilst you’re shampooed and even provided a foot stool for your feet to help you relax.

The finished look

Expertly applying a balayage technique to my hair, colourist Edd chose to use a subtle selection of caramels, dark blondes and browns in my hair, before colouring the roots with a darker brown that is much closer to my natural hair colour.

With a wealth of experience, Edd worked his magic on my hair which resulted in a subtle blend of dark to lighter tones, one that he explained will grow with the hair and is easy to make feel even more summery with lighter tones in the future, or make even darker in the winter months.

Handing me over to the capable hands of Advanced Director, Tom, who is nothing short of a wizard when it comes to cutting hair, my new look slowly started to take shape.

Scissors in hand, Tom set about cutting my hair to collar bone length and provided a whole host of handy hints on how to re-create volume and style at home, before revealing the final look.

The Blushes Hair ID service is complimentary for clients and is a great opportunity to utilise the vast knowledge of the salon team. It’s a great way to discuss hair ideas you’ve had, or let the team lead on what would suit you best.

Top tip

With wealth and background of experience, head to a Hair ID service appointment with an open mind and let the team inspire you with a brand-new look. Forget your preconceptions about what is best for your hair and let the salon transform your hair.
