The coronavirus lockdown has seen a surge in homeowners cracking on with DIY projects of all shapes and sizes, so news that the Cheltenham branch of popular home improvement retailer Wickes is reopening is expected to be welcomed.

Forming part of a trial to re-open six stores across the UK with strict new social distancing measures in place to protect staff and customers, Wickes Cheltenham is going to be operating shorter opening hours from Monday to Saturday, from 7am to 6pm, while Sunday will see trading hours of 10am to 4pm.

Opening again from 7am on Thursday 30 April 2020, Wickes Cheltenham will embrace initiatives used by other retailers during the crisis; limiting the number of customers in the store at any one time, with clear signage and floor markers to advise on keeping two metres apart.

Customers will also see Perspex screens at tills which are now commonplace in supermarkets, as well as staff wearing PPE, new sanitising stations and payments limited to card and contactless.

Although it’s considered an ‘essential retailer’ under the hardware category, Wickes closed its stores in March following the Government social distancing guidelines.

Services such as timber cutting and paint mixing will not be able during the trial period, while showroom kitchen and bathroom design appointments are only available to customers virtually.
