Police dogs need new places to train

Police dog teams in Gloucestershire are in need of new venues to carry out training drills. Gloucestershire Police have put out an appeal to the public to help find the perfect location.

Empty or disused buildings, office blocks, large houses or even stadiums are being sought by Gloucestershire Police, as new training locations for its police dog teams.

The force is looking for new venues within Gloucestershire to train German Shepherd police dogs with drugs searches, explosive searches and firearms support. In the case of the drug and explosive searches, buildings don’t even need to be empty, as dogs can safely search around people.

Gloucestershire police says it would also be interested in empty buildings which may only be available for a few weeks ahead of sale or let.

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Police said: ‘It is important for our police dogs’ development to receive training in realistic venues to prepare them for operational duties.’
