Flag football is set to take the Olympics by storm at LA 2028!

Ever heard of flag football? Well it's set to be an official Olympic sport for LA 2028 — and it's the perfect time to become a fan, as Gloucestershire plays host to the UK's biggest flag football tournament this August 2025.

Flagapalooza is bringing together teams — of men, women and mixed — from all across the globe to compete, from the USA and Ireland to Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands, all on a mission to come out on top as the tournament comes to Cheltenham.

Similar to American football, flag football offers a high-octane, faster paced version of the sport, while also being more accessible as it's non-contact, with tackles being made by pulling off flags which all players where on their hips throughout the game.

Play is the same as American football, with offensive teams having four attempts to reach a certain point on the field, with the defensive team endeavouring to halt their progress by working as a team with strategy and technique.

The winning team will win a cash prize, championship rings and custom flag belts and balls from flag football merchandise brand Shruumz.

Starting with a welcome party at DEYA Brewery — with 100 free Pigs Pizza slices up for grabs — the tournament schedule kicks off on Friday 8 August, with all the sporting action taking place on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 August at Cheltenham Tigers RFU in Newlands Park.

The event is free to spectate, with crowds also invited to a party at The Frog and Fiddle on the Saturday night too.
