It's the end of an era for The Warehouse Climbing Centre which will, after 30 years, close its popular climbing wall attraction in Gloucester at the end of November 2024.
But as one chapter closes, another begins — with the esteemed climbing company moving into a much bigger space at 270 Climbing Park in Bentham.
The brand-new bouldering gym, which marks the second phase of 270's development to create one of the UK's most comprehensive climbing facilities, is due to open on Friday 6 December 2024.
With five times the footprint of The Warehouse, the £7m bouldering centre offers facilities for newbie climbers as well as professional athletes, with over 1,000 square metres of bouldering surfaces and climbing walls reaching up to 4.5 metres high.
It's also home to the Fun Walls climbing area, featuring crazy and colourful climbing challenges for children aged five to 13 — perfect for family days out in the cold, wet months, as well as offering an accessible way for adult beginners to get into climbing.
Visitors to the bouldering gym can also enjoy refreshments in the cafe bar, a large, welcoming space that overlooks the ropes course; and check out its new gym and training area, too.
During its 30 years of trading, The Warehouse Climbing Centre has seen hundreds of thousands of people scale its walls, attracting climbers of all ages and abilities as one of the first dedicated climbing centres in the UK.
Commenting on the decision to relocate, co-owner Robert Stevens, who is also director of 270 Climbing Park, said: 'So many people from Gloucestershire and further afield have fond memories of climbing at The Warehouse. We are incredibly proud of our heritage and all that’s been accomplished over the last 30 years — it’s been pretty special.
'But with little space to grow the business or develop the facilities, the time has come to move on, however, we’re incredibly excited about what lays ahead with the new company, 270 Climbing.'
270 Climbing Park first opened in spring 2023, bringing one of Europe's biggest high ropes courses to Gloucestershire.
Following works completed by Root Construction, the launch of its bouldering centre marks phase two of its ambitious development plan; with phase three set to bring even more aerial activities to the park in spring 2025, with the opening of its 17m-high roped climbing gym.
The bouldering gym opens on Friday 6 December 2024.
