A £2 million-pound project to build an inland surfing lake just half-an-hour away from Gloucester, has been given the go ahead.
The project, known as The Wave plans to open in the Autumn of 2019 off Junction 17 of the M5, near to Cribbs Causeway.
The project will use cutting-edge wave making technology to generate around 1,000 quality waves each hour. Heights will start at 50cm and peak at almost 2m.

The inland surfing lake is the brainchild of Nick Housfield who said: ‘It has been a long, and at times frustrating, journey along the road to realising my dream of building a beautiful inland surfing destination.
‘However, we now have land and planning permission, financial backers, the right technology and an incredible team of experts working together to make the vision a reality. It is all systems go and we are now on site preparing for construction!’
The project has been supported by Surfing England, and as well as providing the perfect playground for professional surfers wanting to train out of season, The Wave will also accommodate those new to surfing and disabled people.
Spike Kane is an adaptive surfer and said he couldn’t be more excited about the development of accessible, world class waves within our communities: ‘The Wave Bristol has a vision of barrier-free design that welcomes and accommodates absolutely everybody.
‘I believe that it will be instrumental in the growth and development of adaptive surfing in the UK, Europe and beyond. I know it will be a beacon of light for me!’
The Wave will work alongside its Spanish technology partner, Wavegarden and has secured financial backing from Jar Capital Ltd to fully fund the development.
