Attracting tourists and locals all year round, Gloucestershire has some of the best places to see stunning autumn colour and some of the most beautiful walks — and in new national research, the county has just been named one of the very best destinations in the UK for a walk!
The study, carried out by credit card brand Aqua, analysed more than 50 popular holiday destinations across the UK, as part of a larger study to find the best camping spots in the country, too.
15 glorious locations made the list, which was curated according to how many walking trails are accessible at each one, including nearby friends, Somerset, Oxfordshire and the South Downs — with Gloucestershire coming in at number 13 and the Cotswolds close behind at number 14.
The top five is made up of the Lake District at number one, followed by the Peak District, Hampshire, the Scottish Highlands and finally, Surrey.
Gloucestershire totted up a staggering total of 534 walking routes, from Cheltenham to the Forest of Dean, while the Cotswolds had 528 routes analysed.
