While it probably comes as no surprise to fans of the Cherry and Whites, Gloucester Rugby has been named as one of the UK’s top 10 most-loved sports teams by a new study.
The research, conducted by Sports Direct, placed Gloucester Rugby as the 7th most loved sports team in the country – and the most loved rugby club on the list.
Gloucester Rugby was one of only two rugby clubs to make the top 10, with Arsenal taking the number one spot; Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City and West Ham making up the rest of the top five; ice hockey team Cardiff Devils ranking at number six; Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers athletics team at number eight; Guilford Flames ice hockey team at number nine; and London’s Harlequins rugby team rounding off the list at number 10.
The study comprised of teams associated with leagues across eight sports in the UK, taking into account a variety of factors including social following; online mentions; engagement rate; percentage of stadium capacity; and online merchandise searches, to identify the top 15 clubs in the country.
Sports Direct said the study was designed to celebrate fans, their love for sport and their support for their favourite teams.
Three cheers for the Cherry and Whites!
