A brand-new immersive audio-visual experience is coming to Beechenhurst in the Forest of Dean this autumn.
Commissioned and produced by Sound UK in partnership with Forestry England, 'The Secret Sounds of Trees' takes place from Friday 22 to Sunday 24 September 2023 and allows visitors to experience the microscopic vibrations and sounds of the trees, plant life and soil at Beechenhurst, usually inaudible to the human ear.
The atmospheric soundscape invites audiences to take a deep breath, immerse themselves in nature, experience the hidden world all around them and listen to how all the different parts of the forest interconnect with each other.
The stimulating sounds have been captured using specially designed microphones developed by acclaimed artist, Jez riley French — the likes of which were used in David Attenborough's The Green Planet series — and turned into a unique soundscape in collaboration with award-winning Finnish composer and sound designer, Lau Nau.
To complete the installation, the soundscape is paired with a transformative lighting installation by Ulf Pedersen, giving visitors a chance to experience the Forest of Dean in a completely new way.
The installation lasts around 30 minutes and is free to experience, but timed entry slots between 7.30pm and 9.30pm must be booked in advance.
Booking opens from 10am on Thursday 17 August 2023.
