New campaign aims to help people get more active in Gloucestershire

Almost a quarter of people in Gloucestershire are inactive – but We Can Move, a social movement made up of organisations, communities, activity providers and individuals across the county, aims to change that for the better.

Getting more active in Gloucestershire could be easier that you think, with little steps each day adding up to a big difference.
Getting more active in Gloucestershire could be easier that you think, with little steps each day adding up to a big difference.

According to results from Sport England’s Active Lives survey, 23 per cent of people in Gloucestershire are not getting enough physical activity each day – leading to adverse effects in physical and mental health.

Active Gloucestershire – which is part of a national network of Active Partnerships driving positive change across England – is launching its We Can Move campaign this Monday 4 July 2022, to help inspire Gloucestershire residents to become more active and to empower people to enhance their lives.

Being active doesn’t mean you have to spend hours in a gym or go for a 10k run, it can be as simple as walking the kids to school or getting off the bus one stop earlier. Small changes can make a big difference and even as little as 10 minutes of physical activity a day can have a positive impact on your health and wellbeing.

We Can Move aims to work as a collective to make Gloucestershire a place where being active is normal and easy for everyone.

By working together in a social movement, We Can Move wants to break down the barriers that stop people from getting active and ensure everyone has the opportunity to be active wherever and whenever suits them.

Getting active can be difficult for people, especially for people with a disability or long-term health condition. We Can Move is asking more organisations, community groups, sports clubs, activity providers and individuals to join the movement and help make We Can Move’s vision a reality.

Over the next few weeks, the team will share advice and top tips on how everyone can add physical activity to their daily routine, highlighting all of the ways physical activity can make a positive impact on health and wellbeing.

It also wants local organisations to come together and work as a collective to help, too.
