Providing lifesaving emergency medical services when the worst incidents happen in Gloucestershire, Midlands Air Ambulance Charity relies on the generosity of local communities to keep its helicopters in the sky and critical care cars on the roads.
One of the many ways that people can help the charity is by playing its weekly Lifesaving Lottery — a way of making regular donations whilst being in with a chance of winning a £1,000 jackpot, too.
The lottery, which has now been running for 12 years, costs £1.15 per entry which entitles players to a unique number, with winning numbers being randomly selected by a computer each week.
Along with a jackpot cash prize of £1,000, four players can win prizes of £25. There are options to pay to enter on a monthly, bi-monthly, bi-annual or annual basis.
In 2023, 80 per cent of all funds spent on playing the lottery went to the charity, with one per cent being paid in prizes and 19 per cent in expenses.
Emma Wood, head of fundraising and engagement for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, said: 'Three in every ten of our missions are funded by our generous supporters who take part in our weekly Lifesaving Lottery.
'Playing is an easy way for supporters to help make daily lifesaving missions possible in Gloucestershire and the Midlands and win big.'
The charity funds and operates three air ambulances from its bases in Staffordshire, Shropshire and Worcestershire near the Gloucestershire border, along with a fleet of critical care cars, with its team of pilots and critical care paramedics serving a six-county operating patch.
As it receives no funding from central government for its daily air ambulance missions — costing an average of £2,950 each — it relies entirely on support from businesses and the general public to maintain its services.
