Plans have gone in to Tewkesbury Borough Council this February 2025, as luxury gym group David Lloyd gears up to build its second upmarket club in Gloucestershire.

Choosing Bishop's Cleeve for its newest venture, David Lloyd has selected an industrial area opposite North Cheltenham Rugby Club on Stoke Road as its plot.

Facilities detailed in the plans include three weather-protected tennis courts; six canopy-covered padel courts; indoor and outdoor swimming pools; a sports hall with two indoor courts; gym and studio rooms; an indoor spa and an outdoor spa garden; children's play area; and a cafe lounge.

While the majority of Bishop's Cleeve area residents are excited for the plans and view the new club as a positive addition to the village; some locals have expressed concern over its proximity to the waste and recycling facilities on Stoke Road.

Growth at David Lloyd Leisure, however, is going from strength to strength as, in 2024, the group announced plans to invest £500 million in the UK over the next three to four years, with the proposed Bishop's Cleeve club being part of its expansion strategy of 15 new clubs across the country.

And sustainability has been given top billing, with solar panels, low energy LED lighting on racquet courts, and green heating and cooling systems all planned for the new club.
