David Lloyd Leisure is in talks to open a second health and fitness club in Gloucestershire — and it's chosen Bishop's Cleeve as its next location.
Currently in the consultation phase of the planning stage, David Lloyd has recently held meetings in Bishop's Cleeve inviting residents, businesses and councillors to view details and plans of the new club's potential facilities.
David Lloyd currently has one club in Gloucestershire, located in Gloucester's Business Park on Delta Way, with the next nearest club found in Worcester.
Once plans are submitted and approved, the new club is set to be built on Stoke Orchard Road and will replace multiple industrial units currently occupying the proposed site, opposite Cheltenham North Rugby Football Club.
Facilities at the two-storey, state-of-the-art club will include heated indoor and outdoor swimming pools and hot tubs; a multi-use games court, three tennis courts and six padel courts; exercise studios; a luxury spa and garden; a clubroom with cafe; and a dedicated kids' programme with indoor and outdoor play areas.
The spa area will offer a Finnish sauna, fire and ice room, Himalayan salt sauna, citrus steam room, plunge pool and ice cave; while the club will also feature a business hub for remote workers looking to log on after a workout.
A cutting-edge fitness floor upstairs will house a state-of-the-art gym with multiple exercise studios for yoga, spin, cardio and 'blaze' sports — which, at David Lloyd, means martial arts, intense cardio and strength training, all timed to a blast of upbeat tunes.
David Lloyd anticipates the new club will create 100 permanent jobs, with 50 temporary jobs during its construction.
If plans are approved and construction goes ahead, the new site could be open as early as December 2026.
