Active Gloucestershire is celebrating a year of outstanding achievements in 2024 for 'We Can Move'; Gloucestershire’s social movement for physical activity.
Last year was packed full of impactful projects and campaigns that got hundreds of people moving as well as improving their mental and physical well-being along with bringing people together and fostering a great sense of community.
Supporting Sport England’s movement strategy, Active Gloucestershire has been hugely successful in promoting inclusivity and encouraging people to lead healthier, more active lives.
Some of the highlights from 2024 include a yoga celebration project for primary-aged children and school staff; the development of a sport welfare officer network sharing knowledge and best practices; and teaming up with with the NHS, local councils and arts organisations for a social prescribing adults project giving participants the chance to try new activities within the community and out in nature.
Key events included Active Gloucestershire’s We Can Move event at Kingsholm Rugby Stadium, bringing together 100 organisations to tackle physical activity inequalities across the county, as well as a 'Beat the Street' activity game in Cinderford and Street Tag in Gloucester — which is running again this year.
Two initiatives proved a great success; Live Longer Better Gloucestershire which created five new activities for older adults with the help of 52 community champions and healthcare partners; and Changemaker Portrait Project — celebrating 100 individuals and community organisations who have made a significant impact on physical activity.
CEO at Active Gloucestershire, Tom Beasley, said: 'We are incredibly proud of what we achieved in 2024. Our work has been directly aligned with Sport England’s Uniting the Movement strategy, which is all about creating a more active, inclusive society.
'We’re excited to continue this journey in 2025 and beyond, empowering more people to move, connect and live healthier lives.'
Emma Owen, the chair of Active Gloucestershire’s board of trustees, said: '2024 has been a truly transformative year for Active Gloucestershire.
'Our projects have not only inspired more people to embrace active lifestyles but have also strengthened community ties and tackled inequalities across the county.
'These achievements reflect the dedication of our team, partners and communities, and we are excited to build on this momentum in 2025 to create an even more inclusive and active Gloucestershire.'
