The 'Stroudfunding' scheme is open to groups such as schools, sports clubs and community organisations for projects that align with the council's priorities, including the environment and community wellbeing.

Local organisations in the Stroud district are encouraged to apply for a share of £100,000 to fund projects that seek to improve their communities, by signing up for a new crowdfunding initiative.

Stroud District Council is launching the fund as part of its new campaign 'Stroudfunding — crowdfunding for the Stroud district', through which groups and organisations can raise much-needed funding for projects that benefit their communities, via an online platform.

Groups such as schools, sports clubs and community organisations that sign up for the scheme will also be in with a chance of securing up to £10,000 from the council fund, or up to 50 per cent of their crowdfunding campaign target.

For the initiative, the council has partnered with Spacehive, an online platform which enables people to pledge money towards the cost of projects that appeal to them.

Projects that will be considered include those which aim to develop skills; promote sustainability; bring people together; provide training; and transform community spaces.

Councillor Beki Aldam, chair of the council's community services and licensing committee, said: 'Community crowdfunding is a fabulous way for people to fund ideas that will improve their community.

'Often people have a great idea but don’t know how to get started or access funding. Stroudfunding will help them get their projects off the ground with the possibility of a boost from SDC’s fund of £100,000.'

The council is hosting two launch events for the programme, on Wednesday 11 September 2024 from 11am until 1pm at Dursley Tabernacle; and Thursday 12th September from 11am until 1pm at Stroud Brewery, where people can find out more about available funding and how to get involved.

To register for one of the events or for more information on how to register, visit the Spacehive website and search Stroud.
