Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the moon landings, Gloucester is hosting a series of events, of astronomic proportion.
Following Llanthony Priory’s exhibition of Gaia – artist Luke Jerram’s giant globe, the moon is set to arrive at Gloucester Cathedral in October, making Gloucester the only place in the northern hemisphere to exhibit both the earth and the moon.
Throughout the From Earth to Moon season, Gloucester Museum will be exhibiting all things space, ranging from astronaut suits to real rocks from the moon, as well as hosting a variety of interstellar events for the whole family to enjoy.
Among the celestial celebrations across the city is a Space Chase reading challenge at Gloucester libraries throughout the summer, extra-terrestrial events at Gloucester History Festival in September, and theatrical experiences at Gloucester Guildhall in October.
The series concludes with the exhibition of Jerram’s 3D floating moon replica, in Gloucester Cathedral from Wednesday 16 October to Monday 4 November 2019, featuring late night openings and special events.
