In a nutshell
Providing an alternative to a traditional brunch, Yanto’s Pancake House in the centre of Gloucester city is a haven for lovers of sweet treats, but don’t be disheartened if you’re more of a savoury person – this menu truly has something for everyone!
The review
More than just pancakes
We entered Yanto’s poised with unfounded preconceptions that this would be an independent version of the now well-known high street dessert restaurants – but how wrong we were! As its tagline suggests, Yanto’s really is so much more than just pancakes.
Alongside its enormous range of savoury and sweet options, this charming pancake house serves four different bases including fluffy American pancakes, traditional crêpes, waffles and the simply massive Dutch pancake.
We selected both a savoury and sweet option, opting for the Dutch pancake topped with ‘Chocolate Fancy’, a mix of milk, dark and white chocolate chips, a crushed chocolate flake and chocolate sauce; and an American stack topped with crispy streaky bacon, sausage, an egg and maple syrup.
With two members of staff warning me about the size of the Dutch pancake, I must admit I was quite nervous before its arrival! But despite its enormity, I’m proud to say I conquered the beast, even though I didn’t need dinner that night.
The American stack was perfectly cooked with each pancake boasting a fluffy light centre. The crispy bacon was delicious when mixed with the maple syrup. It’s a famous combo for a reason!
Incredible kids’ choice
Visiting with a hungry toddler, the friendly and welcoming team at Yanto’s showed us to our table, provided a high chair and colouring kit, and explained the menu to us.
Kids can pick their own base and then choose between savoury and sweet options, selecting their topping choices by ticking their favourites on the menu, which doubles up as a colouring sheet.
Each element of our son’s American stack topped with cheese, tomatoes, bacon and sausage was cooked to perfection. The generous portion sizes are great value for money, and we were told it was ‘yummy’ and ‘tasty’ which is quite the accolade from someone with limited vocabulary!
Fresh and colourful
Each order at Yanto’s was freshly cooked to order in the open kitchen. We saw colourful fruit, greens and meats all being prepared and cooked before our eyes.
The friendly staff regularly checked that all was okay with our meals, and while we didn’t feel rushed, the speed of service meant that we could enjoy a quick, quality lunch, without it eating into our day.
SoGlos loves
With its accent colours of yellow and grey, and stylish metro tiling, Yanto’s is a lovely restaurant to spend time in.
Its location in the centre of Gloucester on the Oxbode means it’s ideally located for a quick rest-stop from a busy day of shopping, and its eclectic menu is perfect for those with a sweet tooth and people looking for an alternative to a standard savoury brunch.
Top tip
If you’ve got kids who love pancakes, Yanto’s offers a brilliant kids’ party package, thanks to its hireable space upstairs.
A pancake buffet is served with a range of toppings and drinks, so children can create their own perfect pancake whilst celebrating with their friends.
The upstairs room is also available to hire for corporate meetings and grown-up parties too.
