With a wholly plant-based matchday menu, Forest Green Rovers in Nailsworth is the world’s first vegan football club.

Vegan matchday food from Gloucestershire football club, Forest Green Rovers, can now be enjoyed in homes across the UK, with its plant-based burgers and meatless balls available to buy at the online supermarket, Ocado.

Dedicated vegans and plant-based converts can get their hands on the products from the football club’s plant-based spin-off, Devil’s Kitchen, as Ocado becomes the first retailer to pick up its ‘plant devil’ range of frozen food.

Customers can tuck in to its Thai green curry burger, an uncoated patty flavoured with lime and lemongrass; spicy vegan balls, perfect for pasta dishes; and a matchday favourite, the popular shiitake mushroom burger.

Reinventing matchday meals, the delicious plant-based products are made with pea protein, free of major food allergens including soya and gluten; as well as free from palm oil and artificial ingredients.

Devil’s Kitchen is also the first frozen food company to use a compostable film on its products – confirming FGR’s reputation as the ‘world’s greenest football club’ through its commitment to sustainable packaging.

Launched in 2018, Devil’s Kitchen was created with the aim of bringing plant-based food to primary pupils in a bid to improve nutritional standards in schools, with a dedicated facility close to the FGR ground near Stroud.

A surge in popularity saw the brand expand into secondary schools, as well as colleges and universities – with Devil’s Kitchen now supplying approximately 10 per cent of schools nationwide.

Dale Vince, founder of Devil’s Kitchen and chairman of the football club, said: ‘Kids love the food, and football fans from all over the country have been asking if they can get them at home – so we’re excited to go nationwide with Ocado.

‘Today, food is such an important issue and veganism is a growing choice – both for our health and the future of our planet. And with Veganuary and Meat Free Mondays bigger than ever, it’s time to bring a taste of Forest Green Rovers into homes everywhere.’
