The Sober Parrot in Cheltenham has joined forces with The Long Table in Stroud to provide home-cooked ready meals for people who need them during the Coronavirus crisis.
After closing its doors on Friday 20 March 2020, The Nelson Trust, which runs The Sober Parrot, asked the team to start making meals for the most vulnerable in their community.
Without any way of distributing the food, The Sober Parrot teamed up with local community interest company The Long Table to help get meals to the people that need them most.
Manager of The Sober Parrot, Sam Tribe, said: ‘Getting healthy and nutritious meals to the most vulnerable is the mission and that must continue during the entirety of this crisis and beyond if necessary.’
Co-founder of The Long Table, Tom Herbert, added: ‘When The Sober Parrot offered to join in with the project, keeping the county fed with ready meals, we were delighted. They’ve been professional, enthusiastic and brilliant and have made over 2,500 meals already and delivered 1,600 out to individuals at home as well as providing meals for NHS staff at Cheltenham General.’
It costs £25 to have seven ready meals delivered. The Nelson Trust are encouraging people to buy meals for themselves, with part of the money going towards meals for people who can’t afford them, or for those who can to ‘pay it forward’ by donating the full cost of the meals so they can provide them to people in need.
