Transforming into an effortlessly charming country hotel and eatery, The Frogmill was high on our list of places to try out, so with rumbling stomachs in tow, we went to see what the newly renovated venue has to offer.

The review

To start

As soon as you pull up at The Frogmill, it’s impossible not to be won over by its charm. From the honey-coloured Cotswold stone to the glorious alfresco dining space and distinctive interiors, it’s as inviting on the outside as it is inside.

Taking our seats in the airy glass-house area, we took studying the menu very seriously. With so many of our favourite flavours on the menu, we opted for the peanut and sesame Josper-fried chicken lollipops, and the juniper cured and smoked salmon to start.

As a peanut butter lover, the sesame Josper-fried chicken lollipops were a heavenly treat, perfectly combining sweet, crunchy and nutty flavours and served up with a crisp Asian salad.

Our other starter was the Juniper-cured and smoked salmon with an ingenious deconstructed tartar sauce. Beautifully smoked and with a depth of flavour, each mouthful melted in the mouth and was the perfect pairing with salty capers and fresh dill.

The main course

With our table overlooking the alfresco area, we took in the country chic interiors, glorious greenery and cosy corners which makes The Frogmill the perfect spot for summer celebrations and warming up in the winter.

For our mains, we ordered the 10oz sirloin steak with a side order of beef dripping creamed potatoes and peppercorn sauce. Exceptionally well cooked, the steak was so soft you could have used a spoon to slice it.

Each mouthful packed full of exquisite flavour, the creamy mash along with the beef was a match made in heaven, and being so succulent, didn’t really require a sauce at all.

Our other option was the baked aubergine, spiced tomato and rose harissa ragout; a sublime combination of rich tomato sauce, tangy olives and sweet fragrant flavours.

And for dessert

Full with feverously good food, we didn’t want to miss the opportunity to sample one of the desserts and settled on a treacle tart to share along with a frothy cappuccino each.

Complete with a gooey treacle centre, the tart’s pastry crumbled beautifully and the moreish sweetness was contrasted with the sharp and zesty raspberry coulis alongside it.

Offering everything you could want from a classic British pudding, the tart was quite literally the icing on the cake on what proved to be a meal amongst some of the best we’ve ever had.

The Frogmill cooks all of its food in either its in-house Smoker or its Josper Coal Fire, creating exceptionally tasty food, with a real depth of flavour.
