Bishop's Cleeve welcomes its latest restaurant this January, as Jai Ho, a brand-new Indian barbecue cafe and bar, opens on Sapphire Road on Wednesday 15 January 2025.
Jai Ho is the newest venture from the team behind JM Socials, the group that counts uber popular restaurants in Cheltenham such as Prithvi, Bhoomi Kitchen, Circo Brasserie, Holee Cow and BAO + BBQ among its growing portfolio of 11 dining spots.
This is the group's first village location, with JM Socials now testing the appetite for expansion across Gloucestershire, with its other restaurants located primarily in Cheltenham and two in Oxford.
Jay Rahman, co-founder of JM Socials and a resident of the Bishop's Cleeve area, said: 'Our goal with this new venture is to build on the success of Prithvi and our other Cheltenham restaurants by offering a relaxed neighbourhood dining experience, with high-quality food and a welcoming atmosphere. No fuss, just good vibes.
'While the concept will differ from our existing restaurant offerings, we are excited to bring that same creativity and care to Bishop’s Cleeve — becoming part of the local community’s go-to destination for quality food and service.'
On the menu at Jai Ho is small Indian barbecue plates, with dishes such as crispy fried okra, chilli chicken, barbecue butter chicken wings and Wagyu sheekh kebabs.
From the grill, diners can tuck in to barbecue masala lamb chops and tandoori masala chicken on the bone; alongside other flavourful mains such as beef and murgh biryanis; and warming curries with cod, vegetables, beef and more.
Over at the bar, craft beer from Gloucestershire breweries such as DEYA, Hawkstone and Stroud Brewery are on the line-up, along with Asian-inspired cocktails and a huge range of wines.
Jai Ho is also serving up hot drinks and bar snacks all day, with stand out beverages such as authentic Chai, created the slow traditional way on the stove.
Inside, the restaurant's design — by New York and Gloucestershire-based interior designers, K Works — takes on a classic gentlemen's club aesthetic, with rich green walls and tiling, caramel leather seating and warm wood tables and flooring, against brass metalwork, low lighting and nods to the Indian subcontinent in accent wallpaper panels.
Jai Ho is open Tuesdays to Sundays from 12pm to 10.30pm, with food served from 12pm to 3pm and 5pm to 9.30pm. Walk-ins are encouraged but tables and takeaways can also be booked online via the Jai Ho website.
The official opening day is Wednesday 15 January 2025 at 12pm.
