In a nutshell

Quintessential country pub, The Royal Oak Tetbury, came up trumps with its feverously good Sunday lunch, all served up with bags of Cotswold charm and roasties aplenty.

The review

Picture-perfect pub

Nestled in the charming town of Tetbury, The Royal Oak oozes Cotswold curb appeal with glorious original features, a hugely warm welcome and the heavenly smell of roast potatoes.

Heading through the front door with kids in tow, stomachs rumbling and appetites intrigued, the pub promises all the allure of a traditional village watering hole, but with an added edge of stylish interiors, chic accessories and glorious oak beams throughout.

Offering something for everyone, The Royal Oak is quickly making a name for itself championing vegan food as well as serving up its signature roast; something that was very clear from the fully packed pub and seriously scrumptious plates heading out of the kitchen.

The Yorkshire puddings of all Yorkshire puddings

Opting for pretty much every choice on the menu, we tucked into seriously succulent roast lamb, melt-in-the-mouth organic beef, seasonal veggies and a generous helping of fluffy roasties.

Much to our delight, every roast at The Royal Oak is served up with of a beautiful beasty Yorkshire Pud which was superbly crisp and fluffy – and there’s even a vegan Yorkshire available too!

Not wanting to pass up the opportunity to go all out, we also opted for the cauliflower cheese and lashings of hearty gravy, which went down a treat, with pretty much every plate empty before long.

The grand finale

With the little diners (and big ones) full of Yorkshire puds, we were still hankering for something sweet, and the warm chocolate brownie with a tangy raspberry coulis was the perfect finale to our foodie feast.

The crumble also went down a storm, served up with lemon meringue ice cream and the all-important crunch on top. The rest of us sipped on a perfectly frothy lattes and cocoa dusted cappuccinos wishing we could spend every Sunday here.

With faultless service from our waitress Gemma, nothing was too much trouble for the friendly team. With empty plates and seriously satisfied stomachs all round, we’re sure to be heading back to this country retreat as soon as possible.
