Coffee aficionados in Gloucestershire can create their own signature roast at home, as Cirencester-based Rave Coffee has expanded its range of green, unroasted coffee beans.

With coffee shops closed due to lockdown, more and more coffee lovers have taken to roasting their own beans, with Rave now offering 10 varieties of green, unroasted coffee beans – including Arabica, Robusta and decaf.

According to Rave, each bean has ‘its own flavour profile and roasting characteristics’ with would-be baristas able to experiment and make their very own signature roast from the comfort of their kitchen.

The green bean range includes Ethiopian Sidamo, with notes of stone fruits, citrus and black tea; Guatemala Bosques de San Francisco which has toffee apple, mango and cocoa flavours; and the delicious sounding Indian Monsooned Malabar AA which promises to deliver chocolate, cedar, wood smoke and spice notes.

All Rave coffee beans are ethically and responsibly sourced from single estates or smallholder cooperatives. The roastery has also recently joined the ‘1% For The Planet’ initiative, pledging 1 per cent of all its sales to help preserve and restore the natural environment whether it makes a profit or not – so its beans are green in more ways than one.

Rave also sells countertop coffee bean roasters for serious coffee nerds, but an iron skillet or popcorn maker will do just fine for anyone wanting to give it a try.

The new Rave green coffee bean range is available to buy online with prices starting from £2.50 per bag. It also has whole roasted beans and ground coffee available, if you’re not quite ready to roast your own.
