The new menu at The Village Pub promises nostalgic classics using the freshest ingredients.

Celebrating the simple joys in life is at the heart of the ethos behind the reopening of The Village Pub in Barnsley this summer.

On Friday 14 June 2024, the pub near Cirencester is opening its doors to a fresh look in line with its new owner THE PIG.

Co-owner, designer and curator of the look, Judy Hutson, has worked towards a brief of making every visit to the pub feel like coming home.

She said: 'We are all very excited about The Village Pub. We have never had a pub before and of course everyone has their own idea of how a perfect pub should feel.

'In our case, this 18th century building is a very good starting point. Low ceilings, huge oak beams and multiple fireplaces all feature, together with cosy bedrooms which we are updating to THE PIG hotel standard.

'Just being in the space automatically strikes a Dickensian Tavern chord and the strong moody colour palette I have chosen only emphasizes this.

'Of course, there will be lots of eclectic collectibles to feast the eyes on and, while not my area, I know the delicious menu and traditional ales will complement.’

The new menu promises nostalgic classics using the freshest and most flavoursome ingredients.

Jugged beef and carrot features, alongside smoked haddock fish cake, bangers and mash with onion gravy as well as Godsell’s Double Gloucester and white bloomer Ploughman’s. While sweets include a classic gooseberry crumble or chocolate mousse.

Pub snacks include Jesse Smith’s Pork Pie, Gentleman’s Relish on toast and pork scratchings. And the wine list comprises English wine and local brewers are celebrated with ale from Stroud and Arkells as well as Severn Cider on tap.

The atmosphere is important too. THE PIG says it wants the pub to be at the heart of the community, where the warmth and passion of the new team makes guests feel right at home.

The Village Pub will be open all day, every day; from noon until 11pm.

The pub has six cosy bedrooms, each with its own individual character. Rooms start from £215 for bed and breakfast.

THE PIG's other project, its newest hotel at Barnsley House, is opening in early September after a creative and sympathetic restoration by Judy and Robin Hutson, founders of THE PIG.
