Popular Gloucester cocktail bar and Asian grill restaurant, Tiger's Eye, is closing down after 16 years this August 2024.
Occupying the historic Old Bell on Southgate Street, the bar and restaurant announced its closure this week — and it's hosting 'The Last Hurrah' on Saturday 31 August 2024 to celebrate its legacy, inviting customers to party with the team one final time before it closes its doors for good.
DJ Soul Method, who played at the launch of Tiger's Eye, is back on the decks to play the venue out.
With its unique hot rock grill, which allowed customers to cook everything from beef fillet to kangaroo, zebra and llama steak on hot stones; Japanese Izakaya-style small plates menu, with popular dishes like Coca-Cola pork belly; and its famous mojitos, the venue has been a mainstay of Gloucester's foodie scene since it opened in 2008 — with the venue's live music and DJ nights bringing something fresh and fun to Gloucester's nightlife, too.
In a Facebook post announcing the closure, Nick, Maisie and the team said the decision 'has not been easy for us in the slightest' but 'a multitude of factors have now made it increasingly difficult for us to stay afloat'.
The post cites the Covid-19 pandemic, the cost-of-living crisis, dropping trade and the passing of co-owner Paul Soden in 2022 as reasons for the closure, but said the final event this weekend will be a celebration of the last 16 years, reminiscing about all the friendships, birthdays, weddings and even funerals that have been celebrated at Tiger's Eye over the years.
The team also thanked customers and staff past and present for their contribution to the community and asked punters to be sensitive towards the staff on their final shifts.
Tiger's Eye is currently open for walk-ins only, with a reduced menu as items start to sell out — and 'The Last Hurrah' takes place from 12pm on Saturday 31 August 2024.
