Gloucestershire foodies with a taste for spice have a brand-new dining destination to try, with Bombay Street Food Company taking up residency at Dunkertons in Cheltenham this January 2025.
Sister company to The Gagan — the tandoor, brasserie and bar located on London Road — Bombay Street Food Company brings a blend of eastern flavours from across India and South Asia to the popular lifestyle destination, inspired by the vibrant flavours of subcontinental street food.
Offering a menu of thoughtfully reimagined classics with a modern flair, diners can expect breakfasts including dosa — a thin, savoury pancake made from a fermented batter of ground black gram and rice; and smoked salmon khichdi — yellow lentils and rice porridge, with poached eggs and smoked salmon.
While the daytime offering includes items such as murgh koh kora — a spicy battered chicken dish; Punjabi singara — a traditional samosa with mint sauce; or the filling kati kebab — a naan stuffed with braised tandoor cooked lamb shank, peppers and onions, drizzled with a mint chutney.
Following a trial during last year's Cheltenham Literature Festival, chef and Cheltenham restauranteur, Ram Jalustram, is bringing the recipes passed down through generations to Dunkertons on a permanent basis.
The Gagan’s manager, Ragu Yadav Narravula, said: 'We believe we are offering something truly unique to Dunkertons customers.
'The breakfasts have gone down extremely well and the dosas are now a firm fixture, so many had never heard of this traditional dish.'
Bombay Street Food Co is open seven days a week at Dunkertons, with breakfast served from 8.30am to 11am; and the main menu available between 12pm and 9pm.
