Ever since the news broke, back in January 2024 that THE PIG hospitality group has expanded its portfolio into Gloucestershire, all eyes have been on an opening date. And now SoGlos can exclusively reveal there's not long to wait.

The Village Pub, in Barnsley near Cirencester, will open in early June and THE PIG hotel will be launched shortly after with an opening date set to be confirmed in early September 2024.

Taking ownership of not just the hotel but the village pub too is a first for THE PIG, which has eight hotels along the south of England.

At the time of announcing the acquisition, THE PIG chairman Robin Hutson said: 'We are absolutely thrilled to have acquired Barnsley House, it has been in my peripheral vision for many years as a possible acquisition, always thinking it would make a perfect ‘Pig’ and we are very excited to have our first pub too.'

Typical THE PIG menus include a range of nibbles from the garden, sea and farm. There are also a regular range of garden-based dishes celebrating seasonal vegetables. And mains are often made up of produce from within a 25 mile radius — supporting farmers and producers.

Local drinks producers are usually stocked too, with monthly specials showcased alongside cocktails shaken from regional distilleries.

Two other new sites, outside of Gloucestershire, are part of the portfolio expansion too with THE PIG–on the farm in Stratford-upon-Avon opening at the end of 2024 with THE PIG–at Groombridge, Tunbridge Wells expected to open in summer 2025.

THE PIG portfolio encompasses 11 sites in the UK.
