Tewkesbury’s Twisting Spirits Distillery has been awarded three stars in the 2021 Great Taste Awards for its kimchi gin, this September 2021.

A world first, the gin is distilled in-house at the Gloucestershire distillery before being infused with homemade kimchi, created using an ancient recipe and then matured for complexity and taste.

Twisting Spirits’ unique distillation process extracts maximum flavour for the kimchi to create a London Dry style gin with an intriguing savory taste.

The Great Taste Judges said: ‘We were astonished by how pure and retained the kimchi aromas and flavours were. The methods and ingredients have been incredibly well blended with a high-quality spirit.

‘We thoroughly enjoyed the gin and think it’s been executed to perfection… Without doubt it would make a tremendous Bloody Mary or Red Snapper.’

Richard Bateman, distiller behind Twisting Spirits’ kimchi gin, said: ‘We are a small family business and our vision has always been to innovate and delight with our deliciously different gins. Since our launch in 2017 we’ve worked tirelessly, pushing the boundaries and pioneering bold flavour profiles.

‘Kimchi gin, our bravest and most unique gin has received the coveted 3-star award at Great Taste Awards 2021 – a real validation of the product’s distinction. We are proud to have also received a 2-star award for Summer Snap Gin, also entered into this year’s competition.’

Twisting Spirits is the only distillery in Gloucestershire to be awarded two stars and the only distillery in the south west region to receive three stars in this year’s Great Taste Awards.
