A new hipster-style food location will open in Gloucester next year after it was given planning permission by Gloucester City Council’s planning teams 2018. The project was originally due to open in the summer of 2020, but a spokesperson working on the project has told SoGlos that it will be delayed by six months, and is more likely to launch at the end of 2020.
It’s hoped that by January 2020 the first businesses to be involved in the Food Dock development will be announced.
The development of the stylish new Food Dock will take place at Gloucester Docks on Commercial Road, at a site near to the Soldiers of Gloucestershire museum. Previously the venue had been used by a solicitors’ firm and as offices, but part of it has been empty for more than 10 years.
The new development would provide space for 12 small restaurant units selling a range of food and drink options, most likely from smaller independent companies.
Plans suggest that there would also be outdoor terrace areas, with large glass panels, allowing diners to eat and drink with a view overlooking Gloucester Docks.
The style will be a range of modular, container style, black-clad units which will be stacked on top of each other to create two floors.
Planning permission was granted by Gloucester City Council’s planning teams, and developers have three years to complete the work.
