What’s thought to be the world’s first Gin and Tea bar will open in Cheltenham in mid-October 2018.

The Memsahib Gin and Tea Bar will be operated by the team behind the East India Café and will serve 55 gins, sourced from around the world. It also plans to serve up its own distilled gin alongside a range of teas and food from East India Café’s Anglo-Indian menu.

The bar was initially set to open only once a Kickstarter crowdfunding target of £55,000 had been met. But now the new venue says it will open in October following demand from the public.

Litu Mohiuddin, co-owner of East India Cafe & the new Memsahib Gin and Tea Bar, said: ‘Everything is coming together and, while we’ve not got a fixed date yet, we know we’ll be ready to open in mid-October.

‘There’s a wealth of Anglo-Indian history in Cheltenham and it’s this that inspired us to open the Memsahib Gin and Tea bar, where we replicate the welcoming home of the wealthy upper-class European women of the Raj (known as memsahibs). These homes had a distinct Anglo-Indian vibe and it’s this we’ll be looking to convey in the bar’s décor and ambience.’
