First look: Inside major makeover of historic Cotswolds pub

New owners of The Lamb Inn in Great Rissington have breathed fresh life into the 17th century pub, filling it with cosy interiors and a homely menu of pub classics celebrating the best of seasonal produce.

It's the start of a fresh chapter for The Lamb Inn in Great Rissington.

New managers, married couple Elliot Cree and Kathleen Cree-Vincent, have teamed up with Brakspear brewery to bring a fresh lease of life to the historic pub that dates back to the 1600s.

Thanks to an investment of tens of thousands of pounds and more than a month of building works, the pub has a brand-new look and menu.

The refurbishment has updated the furniture, layout and facilities, as well as bringing a complete refresh of the pub’s interior design, giving it a big boost of cosy Cotswolds appeal.

Further upgrades to the 14 Grade II-listed en-suite bedrooms are coming in the near future.

The vision for the pub comes from Elliot and Kathleen who have researched the best wines and producers for the new menu.

Nibbles include ham hock Scotch egg, rye bread and cultured butter and anchovies on sourdough. Starters feature lamb fritters, beetroot and goat's cheese salad, mussels in cider cream and smoked mackerel pate.

The mains appeal to hearty appetites with tarragon rabbit pie, cheeseburgers, red wine beef cheek, skate wing with capers, pumpkin and sage risotto as well as duck breast with blackberry puree on the menu.

Pistachio tiramisu and hot chocolate pudding with homemade ice cream are highlights on the dessert menu.  

Kathleen, who now lives in the pub with her husband, said: 'We are delighted to be working with Brakspear to breathe new life into this wonderful community pub. We want to make The Lamb Inn the jewel in Great Rissington’s crown — a place where everyone feels welcome to enjoy a pint, a meal or an overnight stay.'

The couple have worked at renowned establishments such as London’s Kitchen Table, Maaemo in Norway, Clos du Cèdre in France and Noma in Denmark, and are pleased to be making the Cotswolds their new home.

'The menu reflects the local area,' adds Elliot. 'The welcome we’ve received in Great Rissington is fantastic, and there is tremendous support from the village to make The Lamb Inn a success for the long term.

'We love bringing together all that’s best about country pubs: great food, great beer and a wonderful setting.'
