Hugely popular Gloucestershire brownie bakery, Hetty’s Kitchen, is moving into its brand-new premises this week – and SoGlos got a sneak peek of the café before it officially opens to the public.

After announcing the permanent closure of its popular Cake Hatch in April 2022, the new Hetty’s Bakery Café is set to open its doors this Wednesday 15 June 2022.

The new Hetty’s HQ is treble the size of its former premises at 2,600 square feet and will also have a sit-in café serving coffee, brunch and of course, its signature brownies.

Located next door to The BBQ Society at Unit 31 Morelands Trading Estate in Gloucester, the new venue is just steps away from the former Cake Hatch, which is set to be occupied by Dimkins Patisserie.

The brand-new menu features coffee and brunch with options including lemon meringue or avocado and sticky halloumi brunchy toast; grilled cheese toasties; sweet corn fritters; and even churros, all made with locally sourced ingredients including Hobbs House bread, Fire and Flow coffee and Tubby Toms hot sauce. Selected dishes can be made vegan, too.

Despite facing closure during the pandemic, the Gloucestershire institution has baked its way to success over the last two years. Pivoting from supplying cafés and shops across the county to launching a letterbox brownies home delivery service in 2020 allowed the business to expand and grow. The team opened a brownie bar at Stroud’s Five Valleys market in 2021, as well as acquiring the new bakery premises opening this June 2022.

Hetty’s Kitchen founder, Henrietta Kitt, said: ‘The new unit was completely gutted when we took it on. It didn’t have any plug sockets or lighting – just one broken toilet with no walls or a sink! But this location is very special to me, it’s where I opened my first bakery outside of my home, but it’s also part of an emerging food scene in Gloucester, which I’m really excited to be a part of.

‘It’s the perfect location for us and we can’t wait to share it with people who love coffee and cake!’

Hetty’s Bakery Café officially opens on Wednesday 15 June 2022 with a special launch event from 10am to 4pm, which will see the first 30 customers treated to a goodie bag as well as offering free samples and special offers to visitors throughout launch week.

The café’s regular opening hours will be Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm, with parking available on site too.
