An eco-friendly coffee company has launched in Gloucestershire, promising to use 100 per cent recyclable packaging in a bid to reduce the amount of packaging sent to refill by the coffee industry.
Known as Ritual Coffee, the company offers a ‘zero landfill’ coffee subscription service where customers are able to choose the type of grind and origin of the coffee, as well as how often to receive orders.
Delivering the coffee in paper coffee pouches rather than in plastic or aluminium-lined bags, Ritual Coffee also provides a free ceramic canister for all subscribers that’s designed to keep coffee fresher for longer.
Founder, Courtney Conroy, says: ‘this jar has a patented inner lid, which forces air out rather than in, keeping your coffee as fresh as possible. This is a far better option than a lined bag, which upon opening, exposes your coffee to oxygen for the duration of its shelf life.
‘We’ve decided to push back and rethink how we do things. The quality and freshness of our coffee is paramount, but not before the planet. We roast our coffee on demand, so although it’s packaged in paper for our subscription service, it’s ultra-fresh as it’s been roasted that week.’
Roasting the coffee by hand, Courtney ensures the high quality of the coffee, which was recently scored more than 80 out of 100 by independent Q graders.
