Gloucestershire foodies will be able to save 50 per cent off their meals at restaurants, pubs and cafés across the county this summer, when the new government Eat Out to Help Out scheme is launched in August 2020.

The new UK scheme announced by chancellor, Rishi Sunak, on Wednesday 8 July 2020, will see the government subsidise 50 per cent of restaurant food bills – with diners able to save up to £10 per head, including children’s meals, when eating out Monday to Wednesday in August 2020.

Any eatery can join the scheme, meaning High Street chains and independent venues are eligible, but savings will only apply when dining-in – with takeaways remaining at full price.

Venues will be able to claim the money back from the government, with a promise that refunds will be paid directly into bank accounts within five working days.

With an estimated 1.8 million people working in hospitality in the UK, the government hopes the new scheme will go some way to protecting the jobs of people who work in the industry and will aid in the country’s recovery from the Coronavirus crisis.

To support the independent businesses taking part in the scheme across Gloucestershire, SoGlos has handpicked a selection of restaurants, pubs and cafes you can save 50 per cent off at, see:
