Gloucestershire cider lovers will be hard-pressed to find a better day out than a trip to Dunkertons’ organic cidery in Cheltenham, with pressing tours running throughout autumn 2021.
Founded by Ivor and Susie Dunkerton in 1980, Dunkertons Cider has been crafting certified-organic cider for over 30 years, creating delicious produce without using any pesticides or chemicals to minimise its impact on the environment.
And if cider is your tipple of choice, there’s the opportunity to see the award-winning crafting process at its cidery in Charlton Kings, with plenty of tastings to whet your whistle.
The Cider Tour experience kicks off in the marquee bar, where guests are treated to a half-pint glass of Dunkertons organic cider, served in an etched glass goblet for them to keep. Expert tour guide, Alistair, does a quick meet and greet before leading everyone through to the cidery.
There, cider enthusiasts can see where Dunkertons presses, ferments, hand-blends and bottles its cider, while Alistair describes the company’s incredible history and production methods in detail.
Guests will then enjoy a fully tutored tasting session with bespoke cheese and cider pairings, sampling three award-winning ciders as well as some of the fantastic organic produce that can be found in Dunkertons’ onsite shop and deli.
Pressing tours at Dunkertons Cider are running throughout autumn until December 2021, subject to apple availability. After pressing concludes for the year, cider fans will still be able to take a tour without seeing the apple press in action.
For the cider connoisseurs looking for something a little extra, Dunkertons Cider also runs Cider Masterclasses once a month. Taking the Cider Tour experience to the next level, participants will learn the secrets of cider making before having a go at creating their own blend under the watchful eye of Dunkertons’ master cider maker.
The standard pressing experience lasts around an hour and a half and all attendees must be aged 18 and over. Private tour options are also available for groups of 15 or more people.
