Cotswolds pub dishes up its first ever tasting menu this May 2023

The Old Stocks Inn is one of Stow-on-the-Wold's most Instagrammable pubs, with its food being no exception — and May 2023 sees the much-anticipated launch of its first ever six-course tasting menu plus a brand-new head chef to shake things up in the kitchen.

Nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds in picture-perfect Stow-on-the-Wold, with 17th-century charm, an idyllic walled garden and a double AA rosette restaurant, you'd be forgiven for thinking The Old Stocks Inn couldn't get any better.

But this May 2023 sees the launch of its very special new foodie offering — a limited edition summer tasting menu with no less than six courses, each accompanied by a carefully curated drink to compliment the flavours.

The inn's award-winning restaurant has long been renowned for its delicious fare and the team works tirelessly to ensure its handpicked local suppliers provide the very best ingredients from the Cotswolds and surrounding areas.

It was this central ethos that inspired the team's innovative plan to bring a special tasting menu to the table, with its six-course Taste of the Cotswolds creation.

Celebrating all the culinary delights the Cotswolds has to offer, this spectacular new menu is segmented into canapes; breads; scallops or risotto; Chateaubriand or a vegetarian alternative; cheese; and, finally, dessert, with a palate-cleansing hot beverage for the final flourish.

Diners can expect tantalising seasonal delicacies such as chestnut mushroom and truffle velouté canapes; seared scallops with black pudding, cauliflower and samphire; pearl barley risotto with charred cauliflower, walnuts and Whyfe Of Bath cheese; chateau steak with Parmesan and truffle fries; smoked cheddar and soft herb gnocchi with roast asparagus and Roscoff onion; Waterloo cheese with sourdough croutons and poached pear; and millefeuille with poached rhubarb, stem ginger crème anglaise and rhubarb sorbet.

New head chef Ben Tynan, who joined the team earlier this month, is looking forward to refreshing the inn's menus and adding his own stamp to the much-loved seasonal dishes.

He said: 'Most of my career has been spent in kitchens around the Stratford-upon-Avon area, where I have enjoyed creating menus of mainly British inspiration, using many classic techniques, featuring great seasonal and local produce, with a few little twists along the way.

'I’m delighted to have joined the team at The Old Stocks. I hope to continue pleasing our guests and building our reputation in the Cotswolds by creating menus and dishes with as much character as The Old Stocks itself.'

The Taste of the Cotswolds menu is priced at £70 per person for six courses, with an additional £30 per person for a drinks flight. This special limited edition menu will run until Monday 31 July 2023.

The restaurant is open evenings throughout the week from 6pm to 9.30pm, with lunch served on Saturdays from 12pm to 2.30pm and on Sundays from 12pm to 4pm.

The inn also boasts an idyllic walled garden hidden around the back of the pub, which is perfect for alfresco dining and cocktails on the terrace.
