One of Cheltenham’s largest drinking destinations has shocked fans by announcing its sudden closure.

The Bierkeller on Cheltenham’s Bath Road, announced on Monday 19 March 2018 that it will be closing immediately, taking to social media to thank its followers.

Speaking about the closure, owner of The Bierkeller, Nick Martindale said: ‘It was with great sadness that we announced this week the closure of Bierkeller in Cheltenham and it was not a decision taken lightly.

‘For us, it was an experimental venture that we embarked upon and had immense fun with and one that subsequently has enjoyed huge success in bigger cities.

‘Sadly, the operational costs of Oompah Bands every weekend, the holding of nearly 100 different beers on sale and other general operating costs made the business untenable.

‘The Bierkeller was nothing but fun with a capitol F, it was never meant to be taken seriously (How can it when the staff wore Lederhosen?) Thousands of people had great fun and we are immensely proud of that fact, we thank them for their custom.

‘To expel some of the myths, nothing has happened it is merely time to move on and a new leisure venture will be coming to this building soon. Watch this space! But for now; guten abend and thanks for all the fun!’
