The Burger Chef of the Year 2023 and co-founder of cult Cheltenham burger joint, The Beefy Boys, has been asked to judge the National Burger Awards in 2024 after an unprecedented double win at the ceremony last year.

Anthony 'Murf' Murphy took home the coveted title of Burger Chef of the Year at the 2023 event, with The Beefy Boys also winning National Burger of the Year — the first time that any venue has won both awards at the same time.

Since then, Murf has appeared on Saturday Kitchen Live alongside some of the country's most popular chefs and The Beefy Boys featured in Tom Kerridge's Secret World of Hospitality, which captured the lead up to the official opening of its Cheltenham restaurant.

Murf has now been invited to judge the prestigious National Burger Awards himself, bringing his meaty expertise and extensive knowledge of crafting exceptional burgers to the panel.

He said: 'It was an absolute honour to compete with so many fellow burger flippers last year, and it’s amazing to be asked to come back as a judge in 2024. The National Burger Awards brings together the best burger talent in the country, and I’m really excited to be a part of it all over again.'

The event celebrates its 10th anniversary this year — and new for 2024, finalists will compete in a plant-based burger round, with a Freakshake challenge also being introduced.

The National Burger Awards take place in London on Tuesday 20 February 2024.
