Diners in Gloucestershire can get stuck into burritos, quesadillas and churros when El Mexicana opens at Gloucester Quays in 2023.

Gloucester Quays is getting a brand-new restaurant, with Mexican eatery El Mexicana set to open 'in the coming months'.

Taking up residence in the 600-square-foot unit next to The Real Greek, the new restaurant will offer a menu of Mexican favourites including burritos, quesadillas, nachos and churros made from fresh, organic ingredients.

Diners will be able to customise dishes to suit their taste, with 'grab-and-go' lunch options available alongside dinner.

El Mexicana is the second restaurant to open at Gloucester Quays in six months, after The Real Greek opened in September 2022, boosting food and beverage sales at the shopping destination which enjoyed record-breaking sales last year.

Founder of El Mexicana, John Coverley, said: 'Our take on some of the most famous Mexican dishes has universal appeal, and can be summed up in two words – fresh and vibrant. We are delighted to be joining Gloucester Quays.'

Paul Carter, asset director at Peel L&P which owns Gloucester Quays, added: 'Providing new options at Gloucester Quays means we can truly appeal to all of our visitors, whether they live locally or further afield, and whether they want to grab a quick lunch or enjoy a meal as part of a full day out. El Mexicana delivers on all of these – their offer works for a number of visitation reasons, and they add a fresh take on a new cuisine for Gloucester Quays.'

The official opening date for El Mexicana is yet to be revealed.
